Pearl

Books the check-up, spots the emergency.

Pearl is Brightside Dental’s online receptionist. She books check-ups and hygiene visits straight into the practice diary, registers new patients and texts their confirmation, and explains NHS and private fees from the practice’s own fee guide. When a message sounds like an emergency she triages it first: red flags get 999 or A&E advice and an urgent call-back from the on-call dentist, never a routine slot.

What Pearl does for Brightside Dental

Booking, registering, triage, fees, confirmations and hand-offs: the conversations a reception team has all day, handled the way the practice would want them handled.

  • 01Practice diary

    Books straight into the diary

Pearl reads free times from the practice diary and offers them as slots to choose from: dentist or hygienist, mornings or afternoons, a named clinician if asked. The one the patient picks is held while the booking completes.

  • 02Patient records

    Gentle with nervous patients

When someone says they are anxious, Pearl slows down and says so, and their new record carries a care note so the dentist knows before they walk in. A new patient gives a name and a mobile; medical history goes on the secure form, never in the chat.

  • 03Triage protocol

    Spots the emergency

Swelling, bleeding, pain or an injury goes through the practice’s triage protocol before anything else, and the level is worked out in code from the symptoms she records. Red flags get 999 or A&E advice and an urgent call-back, and the diary refuses any booking that carries them; urgent problems get the on-call dentist’s same-day appointments.

  • 04Fee guide

    Fees without guesswork

Every price comes from the fee guide, NHS bands beside private fees, with plan cover spelled out. Whitening and Invisalign are private only, and Pearl will not put them through as a check-up to get them onto a plan.

  • 05SMS gateway

    Confirms by text

A booking counts as confirmed only once the text has gone: date, time, dentist and reference, reply C to confirm or R to rearrange, and for a new patient the link to the medical-history form.

  • 06Reception queue

Hands over with the whole story

Complaints, clinical questions and urgent call-backs go to the reception queue with a written summary, so nobody asks the patient twice. An urgent call-back goes to the on-call dentist, within 30 minutes.

Whatever a patient types

The rules Pearl keeps

Where a rule can be checked in code, it is: the triage level is worked out from the symptoms she records, the diary refuses any booking that carries red flags and keeps same-day slots for urgent ones, and fees come from the fee guide’s own entries. Her instructions carry the rest.

  1. 01

Red-flag symptoms never get a dental appointment: spreading swelling, trouble swallowing or breathing, bleeding that will not stop or a blow to the face get 999 or A&E advice and an urgent call-back from the on-call dentist, however hard the patient asks.

  2. 02

Never diagnoses and never gives advice on medicines. How urgent something is comes from your triage protocol, applied the same way every time.

  3. 03

Every fee and every answer about plan cover comes from your fee guide. Cosmetic treatment is never put through as routine care to get it onto a plan.

  4. 04

Asks only for a name and a mobile, and never says whether anyone else is your patient. Medical history goes on your secure form, never into the chat.

  5. 05

Calls a booking confirmed only once the diary holds the slot and the confirmation text has gone.

Three example conversations

Inside the demo

Each one runs on Brightside’s own homepage, with every diary check, record and text shown behind the scenes, step by step.

  1. Conversation 1Hi, I’d like to book a check-up. I’m new to the practice, and honestly a bit nervous: it’s been years.Book a check-upA nervous new patient, from hello to a confirmed appointment: diary checked, slot held, record created with a care note, confirmation texted.Run this conversation
  2. Conversation 2My jaw’s swollen down to my neck and it hurts to swallowMy jaw’s swollenRed flags in the first message. Pearl sends him to A&E, will not book a chair instead when he asks, gets the on-call dentist to call him, and will not advise on medicines.Run this conversation
  3. Conversation 3How much is whitening, and does Denplan cover it?How much is whitening?A price question and a plan question, both answered from the fee guide. Pearl will not put whitening through as a check-up, and books the free consultation instead.Run this conversation

What to watchIn the emergency conversation, watch Pearl turn down the dental appointment the visitor asks for instead of A&E, then decline to advise on medicines: the triage protocol, not the chatbot, decides that spreading swelling and trouble swallowing are a hospital matter, and the on-call dentist gets an urgent call-back instead.

Built for Claude Opus 5.5, with adaptive thinking at low effort so replies come quickly. The triage level, what the diary will take and every fee come from her 7 tools, worked out in code rather than by the model.
